The Narratives that Shape our World: after climate change and COVID-19, focus on migration

On Thursday, May 23rd, NODES researchers will present the initial results of their work on migration. This study, following those on climate change and COVID-19, is the third in the series “The Narratives that Shape Our World,” which addresses crucial issues for our democracies.

Building upon their previous analyses of narratives on climate change and COVID-19, NODES researchers have observed that polarised narratives often share underlying values. Their work has revealed narrative bridges that can promote open and constructive discussions in the public sphere.

In this forthcoming edition, the focus will shift to migration narratives, a topic of profound importance in contemporary European discourse. As discussions on migration remain central to political debates across Europe, bridging polarised narratives becomes essential to building more resilient and informed communities.

The workshop will be introduced by António Vitorino, Former Director General of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and Yannic Blaschke, NODES European Commission Project Officer.

NODES (Narratives Observatory combatting Disinformation in Europe Systemically) is a research project co-funded by the European Commission, in response to the pressing challenge of understanding the powerful narratives that shape citizens’ minds and impact individual and social behaviours.
