2025 Year in Review: Narrative Science as a Tool for Social Repair

2025 Year in Review: Narrative Science as a Tool for Social Repair

As we conclude 2025, the global landscape remains marked not just by political polarization, but by a profound fragmentation of meaning worldwide. At the European Narratives Observatory (NODES), our work this year has confirmed a critical diagnostic: the same vocabulary now triggers entirely different cognitive realities depending on the “narrative community” an individual inhabits.

When words and phrases like “climate action”, “innovation” or “strategic autonomy” trigger blueprints for resilience in one group and signals of economic disaster in another, we are facing more than a communication failure. We are witnessing a fundamental collapse in shared perception. Throughout 2025, NODES has deployed its REFRAME Methodology to act as the “connective tissue” between scientific rigor and actionable strategies and policies, providing the tools to decode these mental frameworks and build narrative bridges across Europe’s most fractured sectors.

From Agriculture to AI

In 2025, NODES provided the analytical framework for a diverse range of multistakeholder platforms, proving that narrative intelligence is the prerequisite for effective policy-making.

1. Agriculture and the “Common Ground”

Agriculture remains one of Europe’s most polarized narrative ecosystems. This year, NODES provided the foundational research for the 1st Strategic Food Summit and the launch of the RECAP Project.

  • The Goal: To move beyond the “Conflict Frame” (Environment vs. Farming) and identify “Value Anchors” that resonate with both urban youth and rural communities.

  • The Impact: Our research on Biotechnology and Genomic Techniques contributed expert insights into legislative discussions, reframing innovation not as a threat to tradition, but as a pillar of European resilience and sustainability.

2. Data, AI, and Democratic Resilience

In the digital sphere, the Re-Imagine Europa and its NODES Observatory has focused on positioning data as a democratic resource rather than a mere economic asset. Our work have been deployed through a wide variety of AI-driven initiatives across Europe, including SoBigData, AI4Gov-X, Neuroclima, MultiPod and Orbis.

2026 Outlook: Mending the Fragmentation

Building on the momentum of 2025, the European Narratives Observatory enters the new year with a clear mandate: to support public and private institutions in mending the fragmentation of meaning that paralyzes critical conversations.

The Narrative Intelligence we developed this year is no longer a theoretical exercise; it is a strategic necessity. By serving as the laboratory for Re-Imagine Europa’s vision, NODES will continue to provide the mapping, the analysis, and the reframing tools required to ensure that Europe’s transitions—digital, green, and social—are built on a foundation of shared understanding.

In 2026, we continue the work of reframing the future.
